America is called “The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.” We claim to be the land of the free because men are free here to do whatever they wish. We are the home of the brave because we feel that Americans are courageous, as shown by the history of our pioneers who settled vast open lands. True individual freedom cannot exist where people are not brave enough to face the hardships in life and the prejudices and tyranny of men. Wars are fought many times for this very reason.
The Revolutionary War was fought to stop the tyranny of the king of England and ended information of an independent nation called the United States of America. It proved that ideals mean something and are worth fighting for. Our freedom in the United States is built on the blood and effort of freedom-loving men throughout our history.
I have been depressed and despondent in my life and it is always because of what is happening to me or a loved one or family member or in society. When you weigh this fact against the good and bad times in my life you would think that bad times equal depressed times and good times happy times but that is not always the case because of the mindset or the established set of attitudes held by someone. A mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notations held by one or more people or groups of people. A mindset can also be seen as arising out of a person’s world view or philosophy of life.
Recently I had to put my wife of 49 years in a care home because of an advanced case of dementia. I tried to take care of her myself but could no longer meet all her needs and regrettably, I gave way to the fact that I needed professional help. For those who don’t know advanced dementia is a leading cause of death in the United States. Features include profound memory deficits, inability to recognize family, minimal verbal communication, loss of ambulatory abilities, the inability to perform activities of daily living, and urinary and fecal incontinence. Betty, my wife, has all of these symptoms.
This is an excerpt from my book Who Am I? The Gospel Truth About Mankind, you can find the full manuscript Here for your consideration. It seemed appropriate to share it at this time:
Betty my wife came to the door slurring her words and her face on the left side was sagging. She had trouble walking and was disoriented. She had a stroke and a brain scan verified it beyond a shadow of a doubt at the hospital. After weeks of therapy and medical help, she was almost back to normal except she had lost the feeling in the tip of her left hand and could no longer work at the insurance company doing the data entry on the computer. Soon after this, we found that she had a large build-up of plaque in her neck arteries that required surgery. It was blocking the blood flow and causing pieces of plague to float to her brain and might have caused another stroke. The surgery was not an easy one but was successful.
People Come Into Your Life For A Reason, A Season, Or A Lifetime
People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support,
To aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are..
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
This person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Well, The end is not yet. Jesus did not come on May 21st. What does it mean? It means that we can not pretend to know God’s will concerning the exact day of the end and his second coming. He said there would be false prophets and people who would lead you astray. “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.” Matthew 24:26. We have billboards all over town by Family Radio and it’s members stating Judgment Day is coming with the date May 21, 2011, this year. On the website, they give their reasons for the exact date and how they arrived at it. Harold Camping is president of Family Stations, Inc., a California-based religious broadcasting network, including more than 150 outlets in the United States, as well as a Web site. Camping host the Open Forum program on Family Radio stations and is the driving force behind the date setting of Judgment day and the return of Jesus to the earth. You might remember him from his book named 1994 in which he proclaimed that Christ’s return might be on September 6, 1994. In that publication, he also mentioned that 2011 could be the end. He did put a disclaimer in his book that “the possibility does exist that I could be wrong.” Continue reading
As I get older I become more cynical. More distrusting of others and on my guard about the motives of others in my life. I question everything and don’t just open my personal life to anyone. How did I get this way and what do I do about it? What did I gain in being cautious and what do I lose? Is it a healthy way to live? Continue reading
There was a man that lost his footing at night next to a cliff and fell over the side. As he was falling he reached out and grabbed a bush which stopped his descent into the darkness and he hung there. No one saw him or knew where he was, he was alone on the side of the cliff. In the darkness he cried out to God and said, “Lord please hear me, save me and I will dedicate my life to you, please Lord hear me.” He heard nothing but the wind blow. His arms were getting tired he knew he could not hold on much longer. Finally in desperation he yelled out and said, “Please can anyone hear me is anybody up there? Help please Help!” Still no answer coming. The bush was coming loose from the dirt and he knew he was going to plummet to his death. Finally he heard a voice say “let go, if you believe let go”. He answered, “ Is that you Lord help”. Again he heard “let go, if you believe let go”. He thought for a moment then said, “Is anybody else up there”. The bush finally came out of the dirt and the man fell 3 feet to a ledge that he could not see in the darkness and he survived his ordeal. Continue reading
As a nation, we are 234 years old. Not the longest time to be a nation at all others have existed many more years. But there is special about the United States of America both in it’s beginning and present day. 13 colonies banded together to throw off the government of the most powerful nation of that day England. The odds were against them but somehow they prevailed and became a new “nation concealed in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal” Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. We as Lincoln are engaged in a great Civil War again. Not one of guns and bombs but of ideas and laws. Progressive thoughts and ideas are ruling the day in almost all governments in the United States of America. The Congress and President using these ideas have changed the country from one of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to managed health care, freedom for illegals, and uncertainty of the future and fewer jobs. It’s fall and the weather is changing the days are getting shorter and the air a little cooler. This is my favorite time of the year in California the transition of seasons bring some beautiful days and cool nights. I turn 60 this year and as scary as that seems to some in life I really don’t consider that old. I don’t need a barometer anymore to know when the atmospheric pressure is dropping and the weather changing I can feel it in my joints. Continue reading
